Australian woman accused of torturing a child – after horrific discovery in hospital

A woman will appear in court accused of neglecting and torturing a young girl who remains in intensive care weeks later.

Police allege a 10-year-old girl was admitted to Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane on February 9 with dehydration, severe malnutrition and significant untreated injuries.

Officers were notified and began an investigation, with a crime scene declared at a house in Logan Reserve, south of Brisbane.

Following extensive investigations, a 40-year-old Logan Reserve woman has been charged with three counts of failing to provide the necessaries of life and one count of torture.

She is due to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court later on Tuesday.

The girl is in stable condition in intensive care.

Investigations are underway.
