Working up a sweat… Sporty Spice thrills her fans as she promotes her latest solo album
It’s been a quarter of a century since they last topped the charts.
But former Spice Girl Mel C was in Glasgow yesterday to sign copies of her new album, Sweat.
The 52-year-old met fans at the HMV store on Argyle Street in the city, where crowds of fans came to have their albums signed and have their photos taken with her.
Sweat is Mel C’s ninth studio album and is described as ‘a euphoric, energetic record that captures the freedom, unity and escapism of the dance floor’.
Mel C, real name Melanie Chisholm, was known as ‘Sporty Spice’ in the 1990s pop group The Spice Girls, which sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
She started her solo career in late 1998 on the single ‘When You’re Gone)’ with Canadian rock singer Bryan Adams
The last time The Spice Girls had a number one single in Britain was the double A-side ‘Holler’ / ‘Let Love Lead the Way’, released in October 2000.

She has won several awards, including three World Music Awards, five Brit Awards, three American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, three MTV Europe Music Awards and one MTV Video Music Award.
In 2009 she made her stage debut in the West End musical Blood) Brothers, for which she was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award.
Mel C will also return to Glasgow on October 20 to perform at the Barrowland Ballroom as part of her upcoming world tour.
