I visited Queen Camilla’s beautician for THIS subtle but permanent treatment that left me looking younger and more beautiful from the moment I woke up

Forget blusher, foundation and even mascara – there’s one makeup product that does it everyone look more beautiful and younger. What is this universally flattering product? A dark kohl pencil.

Apply it tightly along the upper lash line and it will define the eyes, creating the pleasing illusion of densely packed, soot-like lashes. As humans we are programmed to find this attractive and associate it with youth and vitality.

That is why it has always been a daily non-discussable topic for me.

Or it was, until I got my eyeliner tattooed.

If the look I’m going for is ‘natural beauty’, I don’t have to worry about eyeliner at all.

A dark kohl pencil was Rosie Green's favorite makeup product until she had it tattooed by the beautician who would have treated Queen Camilla.

“Wait a minute,” I hear you say. ‘Did you get your eyeliner tattooed? Are you in possession of your assets? What kind of next-level madness is this?’

Let me explain.

About six or seven years ago I found myself on Suzanne Martin’s treatment bed.

Suzanne is a semi-permanent make-up artist known as the ‘queen of eyebrows’. A large portion of her customers visit the pages of Hello magazine (she recently posted a photo of Queen Camilla on her Instagram page with perfectly arched and smoothed eyebrows, with the caption ‘Our beloved Queen Camilla, always a pleasure!’).

I visited her at the Lanesborough Hotel for her ‘everlasting eyeliner’ service. I was nervous (of course) and made her promise (several times, even though I stopped short of offering a pinky) to be super subtle.

Once I was convinced she got the memo, I sat back and she applied a layer of numbing cream around my upper lash line. Once this had set in, Suzanne used a very fine needle (which looked like a pen) to scratch the surface of the skin and gently apply a black-brown color between the lashes.

I was and still am ecstatic about the results. It makes my eyes pop, which means I look significantly less boggy on no-makeup days

The line looked very natural. It's more like the pleasant darkening you get in that area if you've just had your eyelashes tinted

Did it hurt? It was a little weird, but there was only a very minor discomfort. You can feel the needle buzzing and the vibration of it is a little jarring, but on a pain scale it was less than a visit to the dental hygienist.

After about an hour, Suzanne was done, and true to her word, the line looked very natural. It’s more like the pleasant darkening you get in that area if you’ve just had your eyelashes tinted. About a month later you’ll have to go back for a top-up, and that should last you three or four years (I had another treatment in 2023).

I was and still am ecstatic about the results. It makes my eyes pop, which means I look significantly less boggy on no-makeup days. And it’s clearly smudge-free.

I consider this service a stealth tactic – like straightening your teeth – that ensures the overall appearance is youthful and healthy, without any obvious fakery.

Suzanne is clearly the ne plus ultra of everlasting liner, but others around the country offer this treatment for much less. If you do book, just do your homework and keep it subtle.

A permanent eyeliner treatment lasts approximately four years, requires two treatments and costs £1,400 Lanesborough Club and Spa in Knightsbridge
