A Woolworths employee has unveiled his simple checkout trick to streamline your shopping so employees can scan items efficiently and faster.

Liam Kirley, from Sydney, shared a TikTok video show how he strategically placed the reusable shopping bags and groceries on the conveyor belt.

‘Put one reusable bag on the conveyor belt, put all the stuff you want in that bag’ [behind it] on the assembly line…and repeat the process,” Liam said.

Rather than handing all the bags to the cashier before unloading the groceries from the trolley, Liam said spacing the bags and items across the conveyor will speed up the scanning process.

With heavy bulk goods, Liam suggested leaving them in the trolley.

“We can scan it up there,” he said, adding, “Then you can go.”

The video has since been viewed more than 540,000 times, with many grocery store workers saying the trick helped shoppers checkout efficiently every time.

‘When I worked at Woolies it was a dream for people to do this, it made my job easier. Now I do it to make the work of other shop assistants easier,” says one woman.

Another wrote: ‘I have a lot of clients who do this. It’s so much easier,” with one person adding, “I love the customers who do this to their bags – I wish everyone did this.”

Many said it was a “great hack,” especially if they’re doing a solo shop.

“Wow, I love this idea. We will continue to help pack, but it’s great when I’m shopping alone,” one woman wrote.

But those who take their bags and groceries apart claimed the process doesn’t always work for them.

“I try to hang things that way on the belt, but they always grab something from further down…and I have to rearrange the trolley,” one wrote.

Another said: ‘Not every cashier gets it. I went to Woolies once and did – and the person reached out and grabbed everything I hadn’t been waiting for in the bag.’

As one added, “I separate my items how I want them and the cashier reached out and took things from the back… every time.”
