The Covid outbreak in Victoria is far from peak and threatens to escalate to 1,000 cases a day, said Brett Sutton, the state’s chief health officer.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Dr. Sutton’s modeling suggests that the number of cases will continue to rise despite a steady increase in the number of vaccinations.

While the number appears to have stabilized in the 400s in recent days, the risk of the daily case count reaching 1,000 is still very real, he said.

Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton has stated that Covid numbers in the state are likely to continue to rise, with the possibility of cases in the 1,000s very real

dr. Sutton urged Victorians to get vaccinated as soon as possible, especially those in areas of concern, to try to curb community transmission and hospitalizations.

He said that while most people in the hotspot suburbs have done the right thing by isolating and quarantining, it’s a “very difficult number to keep under control.”

The state counted 423 new cases of Covid on Wednesday, with two recorded deaths.

These deaths bring the toll of the current outbreak to eight.

There are currently 158 Victorians hospitalized with Covid, with 45 in intensive care and 23 requiring a ventilator.

Suburbs of concern include Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana, Campbellfield and Laverton North, which have 1,000 active cases or more per 100,000 population, according to data from the Victorian Health Department.

This will create the freedoms Victorian residents will have when the state meets its vaccination goals while rates steadily rise.

Nearly 68 percent of eligible Victorian residents have now received one dose of the vaccine, while 41.2 percent have been fully vaccinated.
