‘I just didn’t see them (playing) as they were’: Brentford striker Ivan Toney mocks Arsenal by saying he was surprised by their lack of quality during the opening day win for the Bees
- Ivan Toney was the star player in Brentford’s 2-0 win over Arsenal in August
- The 25-year-old taunted the Gunners defenders for the opening day win
- Toney has now admitted he was surprised by the lack of quality at Arsenal
- The Bees star has claimed Mikel Arteta’s men aren’t going to win anything anytime soon
Brentford striker Ivan Toney has launched a brutal attack on Arsenal by downplaying his side’s win over the Gunners last month and saying Mikel Arteta’s side won’t win anything ‘soon’.
The Bees won 2-0 against their opponents in north London on the opening day of the Premier League season on August 13 with goals from Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard, the first of three consecutive defeats that greeted Arsenal at the start of this season .
Toney provided a man-of-the-match by being a constant thorn in the side for Gunners defenders Ben White and Pablo Mari, with the 25-year-old striker admitting he was surprised at the lack of quality the Gunners showed see that evening.

The Brentford attacker said: Baller Talk“Arsenal fans are going to beat me up for this, but you see Arsenal right now and they’re not the best.
“There was a difference (between the Championship and the Premier League), don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t as crazy as, if you make a mistake, it ends up in the back of the goal.
‘I didn’t really see that. They were good at holding the ball, but it didn’t really hit us.
“They weren’t as crazy as I thought (they would be). I don’t know if it (or) they weren’t that good or if we were just excited because it was our first game and it was Arsenal and the Premier League (and) all these things came into the picture.

“I just didn’t see them as they were. You always looked at Arsenal and thought (they were) crazy and they would win this game, win this game.
“Nowadays I don’t see them winning anything so quickly.”
At that point in the conversation, Toney paused and said: ‘Until they get a striker’, which caused quite a stir in the interview, as the 25-year-old striker was linked in the past with a move to Arsenal.
The Bees star has been discussed as a possible long-term option at the Emirates Stadium after sacking Thomas Frank’s men to the Premier League last season by scoring 33 goals in the Championship.
Toney has scored once in four games to kick off Brentford’s first-ever Premier League campaign
Toney has already opened his Premier League account for the new season, scoring a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa at the end of August, but failed to find the net in the other three games.
All in all, Brentford has suffered two draws and one defeat since beating Arsenal on the opening day of the season, although he has racked up enough points to sit comfortably in the middle of the table.
Frank’s side, however, are six places clear of top-class Arsenal, with Arteta’s men only managing to win their first league game of the season last Saturday – a meager 1-0 win at home to Norwich.
