‘We are devastated’: Morning Show host Kylie Gillies announces her beloved father has passed away – weeks after she was forced to miss his birthday due to Covid restrictions
The Morning Show host Kylie Gillies has announced that her beloved father Ron Mills has passed away just weeks after celebrating his 91st birthday.
The 54-year-old revealed the news of his death on Instagram, saying the whole family was “heartbroken” alongside a photo montage of happy memories.
“Our dear father,” Kylie began. “A beloved husband to my mother for 57 years, and a grandfather to four grandchildren who adored him.

“We are heartbroken but grateful. You took care of us for so long. Ron Mills 10.8.1930 – 31.8.2021.”
The devastating announcement comes just weeks after Sydney-based Kylie was forced to miss her father’s 91st birthday after being unable to fly to Queensland’s Hervey Bay during lockdown.
Kylie had instead acknowledged the day with a sweet throwback photo of her with her dad.
The TV anchor captioned the post, “Happy 91st Dearest Dad. Not long after that we get that telegram from the queen.’
“Our dear father,” Kylie began. ‘A dearly beloved husband to my mother for 57 years, and a grandfather to four grandchildren who adored him’

She continued: ‘Not socially distancing here in this photo.. but again, border locks keep us from being all together.
“I know Mommy, Stacy and Julia spoiled you on your special day…as you deserve to be. Xxx from all of us in the south. xx’.
Although they couldn’t have met on his birthday, luckily Kylie was able to travel to Queensland to spend time with him over the Christmas break.
She documented her last minute nightmare of leaving Sydney on December 20, when the New South Wales borders closed.

Kylie said she had ‘never packed up so quickly’ in her life as she clambered onto a flight to Queensland to be with her mother, father and sister, after an outbreak of COVID-19 cases in Sydney meant state borders quickly closed .
Unfortunately, her husband Tony and their teenage sons, Gus and Archie, couldn’t make it in time.
“As the border closes in a few hours, I was rushing to get a flight to QLD,” she said, adding: “I think I got the last ticket, on the last flight leaving for Brisbane tonight. .’
