Sam Burgess reveals the surprising part of SAS Australia he hated the most – and it has nothing to do with physical challenges

From tear gas training to being pushed out of a helicopter – Sam Burgess’ body was really pushed to its limits on SAS Australia.

But the NRL superstar, 32, claims his least favorite part of filming the show has nothing to do with physical challenges.

Speak with seven news on Tuesday, Burgess described his SAS Australia experience as “intense from the first minute to the last”, admitting that at times he “really believed it was too much but he persevered”.

When questioned about the worst military-style part of the show, Burgess surprisingly replied, “Absolutely the lack of food. And clean the toilets.’

The former South Sydney Rabbitohs player also revealed that he was preparing for SAS Australia by doing ‘general training’ and fasting for 48 hours weekly for a month.

Burgess described SAS Australia as a learning experience, saying: ‘I just think I’ve looked more deeply into my abilities and understanding of others and the abilities of others. It was a great period of growth.’

When asked if he would do it again, Burgess answered a resolute “yes.”

It comes after Burgess’ emotional display at Monday’s SAS Australia premiere, in which he sensationally confessed to cheating on his ex-wife Phoebe during their four-year marriage.

“I don’t think I was the best husband sometimes,” he told the camera. “I embarrassed my wife. I had an affair with a girl, a woman in Melbourne. That’s true.

“I was on tour and unfortunately that happened. What would’ve been… it would’ve been a tough place for Phoebe to be.”

In 2018, Sam was embroiled in a sexting scandal involving a Melbourne woman who claimed he cheated on his wife the year before.

In the immediate aftermath of the scandal in September 2018, Phoebe, who was then pregnant with her second child, withdrew from a public appearance but publicly supported her husband in the weeks that followed.

However, the couple ended their marriage shortly after Christmas of the same year, three months after he was cleared of any involvement in an NRL ‘sexting’ affair.

Despite a brief reconciliation in early 2019, the couple broke up for good in October of the same year.
