Rajinsky can hit the bullseye

RAJINSKY (Haydock, nap, 2.55) just missed a big prize at the Ebor meeting in York last month, but he could hit the bull’s eye in the Old Borough Cup this afternoon. Only Irish raider Arcadian Sunrise proved too good on the Knavesmire and a repeat of that run will get him very close.

Rajinsky has had a good run at Haydock – three runs yielded two second places – and his trainer Tom Dascombe is often the man to follow on the Merseyside circuit. In the past five years, Dascombe, who is based in the Cheshire stable owned by former England striker Michael Owen, has sent 57 winners to Haydock, more than 20 more than his closest rival. A £1 bet on all his tokens would have resulted in a profit of over £100.

WAHRAN (Ascot, 3.10) had his progress somewhat derailed when he also lost at the Ebor meeting in York. But his fifth-place finish behind Migration in the Sky Bet Handicap was better than it sounds, as he came up short in the race room late.

The colt, ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, steps up two furlongs in trip, but he has to take it easy.
