A man has discovered dozens of underground tunnels and hidden rooms, which he believes were secret passageways used by servants in the 1800s.

Freddy Goodall, 23, from Sussex, who works as a property developer, looked through old photos of his 500-year-old family home.

He saw a doorway in the library, which was added in the 19th century, but he couldn’t see the same doorway in the room now.

Freddy said, “I looked for it but couldn’t see anything at first, then realized it was hidden behind a bookshelf.

“Eventually I found a hole behind one of the books that overlooked the hidden room.”

In a TikTok video, which now has more than 4.5 million views, Freddy is seen taking the books off the shelves and removing the screws on the forward-facing wooden panel.

He lifts the panel and is shocked to find a dark, empty room behind the furniture.

He sees another panel on the floor and lifts it to find a secret passageway that leads to underground chambers.

Freddy also sees a ladder leading to another room above it, and when he climbs up, he finds a larger room full of cobwebs, dust and a huge wasp nest.

In it, he finds stairs across the room, which lead him to another passageway, which he explores in a second video.

He found several other corridors, which he believes were used by servants to get through the property undetected.

He discovered another room through the brick wall and managed to get through it to find even more secret tunnels and passages.

He broke open the safe and found books from 1848 full of information about the house and some letters.

Freddy also found old school books and desks used in the 1900s when the property was an educational institution.

Freddy said, ‘I was thrilled to find something new in a house I’ve lived in for so long!

‘In the beginning it was pitch dark, so scary!

“I think they were service passages that passed under the house and used them to pass unnoticed from their quarters.

“Some of the underground chambers are built over the top, like one with flagstones that we believe held the horses.

“I left the rooms as they were. I like that they have been the same for hundreds of years. There is so much history in each room.”

Freddy filmed his explorations and uploaded them to TikTok in a series of videos that had users on the edge of their seats.
