The first way you can use old lemons is to freshen up your fridge, as an old lemon half works to ‘eliminate odors’ (pictured)
1. Freshen up the fridge
The first way you can use old lemons is to refresh your refrigerator.
Liz said she put an old lemon half in the refrigerator door to “remove odors.”
The citric acid in the lemon should absorb any bad odors and replace them with a nice fresh scent.
It’s worth remembering to replace your lemon half at least once a week to keep everything smelling good.

2. Remove Rust
The second way many use lemons in the home is to remove rust stains from metals that may have appeared around your faucets and knives.
“Just rub half a lemon on the stains to remove them,” Liz said.
The reason lemon works so well is because the acidity of lemon juice reacts with the limescale (calcium carbonate) or the rust (iron oxide) to soften and dissolve the deposits.
Lemon can also work a treat on stains on cutting boards, bowls and plates.

3. Cleaning your shower
Third, Liz said lemon is great for cleaning your shower glass.
Simply rub half a lemon on the door to remove buildup, dirt and any water stains.
Again, the reason lemon is so effective is because lemons are acids.
They can remove stains caused by other acids or combine with alkaline compounds to create powerful chemical reactions.

4. Cleaning your dishwasher
Finally, lemon works incredibly well for making sure your dishes come out sparkling every time.
All you need to do is place the lemon on the top dish of the dishwasher between the dirty dishes and then run the appliance on a normal cycle.
The citric acid in the lemon removes limescale and deodorizes the dishwasher, while leaving dishes sparkling clean.
The clever hack should only be used occasionally and not every time you use your dishwasher as the acidity is believed to corrode the rubber inside the appliance.
