A single mom has shed almost 6th in less than a year after her son told her she looked ‘fat’.
Nicola Boswell, 42, from Yateley, Hampshire, admitted she used to ‘survive on sugar’ and struggled to find time to take care of herself – and lockdown only made the problem worse.
The turning point came when her son Jameson, now five, turned to her and said, “Mommy, you’re fat.”
“I knew I had to change,” she said. I wanted to take my career to the next level, I wanted to be happy and I wanted to be the best role model for my son as his only parent.”
Nicola has dropped from 15th 5lbs to 9th 7lbs since October 2020 and has slimmed down from size 18-20 to size 8-10.

Nicola said, “I had some toxic relationships that were bad for my self-esteem. I went out all the time to socialize and just didn’t take care of myself.
“When I had my son, everything changed. I had even less energy to take care of myself and I survived on sugar. And my weight just kept increasing.
“It only got worse during the first lockdown as it was such a worrying and difficult time that I turned to food for comfort coupled with extra glasses of wine.
“One day my son looked at me and innocently said ‘Mommy, you’re fat,’ but he only said what he saw.”
Nicola has signed up for The Cambridge Weight Plan 1:1 Diet. To stay on track, Nicola, a program manager, told her boss about her weight loss goals.
She said, “I wanted to make an impression by showing that I was someone to be trusted and always did what they said they were going to do.
Nicola, pictured before her weight loss, said a combination of factors had caused her to gain weight, including toxic relationships and difficulty keeping up after her son’s birth.

“So I told him in October last year that I wanted to get rid of two bricks for Christmas so I could stay motivated.
“I stuck to my goal and within eight months I had lost five pounds and had exceeded my weight loss goal. Until I lost the weight, I had no idea how much my size affected me.
“I would find every excuse under the sun to avoid situations like family gatherings and seeing people I don’t see regularly.

‘I lived on quick and easy food and lots of sugar for quick bursts of energy. But it was great when I started to see the results of the diet plan. I needed quick results to stay motivated.’
Since losing weight, Nicola can easily carry her son to bed and has more energy to have fun with her little boy.
She says her mind is still catching up with her body because she still doesn’t recognize herself when she sees her reflection when she walks past a window.
Nicola added: ‘I just feel like a completely different person. I am more relaxed, ambitious and just enjoy living in the moment.
“My confidence, self-esteem and self-esteem have gone through the roof. I am a new person and you can see that in every aspect of my life. I haven’t felt this good in years.’
