Pascal Struijk has apologized to Harvey Elliott on social media after he dislocated the youngster’s ankle on Sunday afternoon.

Elliott was injured 60 minutes into Liverpool’s clash with Leeds at Elland Road after Struijk injured the 18-year-old’s ankle while trying to get the ball back.

Struijk has said that he is ‘disappointed’ with the situation and that he ‘would never wish on such an injury’.

Struijk nam Instagram to say, ‘In today’s game something happened that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

“Harvey Elliott, my thoughts are with you. I am gutted and this was never meant to happen. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the field soon.’

Liverpool’s medical team, Dr Jim Moxon and chief physio Chris Morgan, had to spring into action on Sunday after Struijk’s challenge left Elliott screaming for help on the pitch.

Moxon and Morgan were able to put Elliott’s ankle back in place on the field before he was taken to the hospital for further examination.

Liverpool have since confirmed that the 18-year-old has “suffered a serious ankle injury” and will undergo surgery in the coming days.
