Justin Bieber’s hotel slippers inspire line of comfort shoes

In 2018, Justin Bieber raised a few eyebrows when he took to the streets of New York in hotel slippers.

But for sneaker supplier, Jon Buscemi, the “Yummy” singer’s questionable sartorial choice caused an Aha! moment.

The businessman assembled a well-connected team of partners, including professional skateboarder turned entrepreneur, Rob Dyrdek, and created Lusso Cloud, (“Lusso” means “luxury” in Italian), a collection of shoes designed around the concept of cozy slip -on shoes meant to withstand the outdoors.

“If you wear a hotel slipper for about an hour in Soho, it will fall apart,” Jon said.

“We took the spirit of the slipper and put a sneaker sole on it, making it super sturdy, but still incredibly comfortable with the waffle fabric and footbed.”

For Jon, it’s all about being comfortable, anywhere, anytime, anywhere.

“I’ve been wearing these kinds of shoes for decades, but in the fashion world, it was always a faux break to wear comfortable shoes.”

Until now.

Sales of high-heeled shoes fell 45% in 2020, while customers attributed more than 75% of their shoe purchases to athleisure styles in the first quarter for 2021.

Even Crocs (once shunned by the fashion industry) saw sales jump 16% from 2019 to a record $362 million.

The bottom of the shoes features an exclusive Triple Stack technology consisting of three layers of comfort: memory foam, molded rubber and EVA foam.

An IP EVA outsole makes them non-slip, highly elastic and waterproof, so they can withstand the outdoors, unlike Justin’s slippers.

Few aspects of life have been left untouched by the coronavirus pandemic.

Designers started producing more comfort clothing, while retailers brought more loungewear and athleisure to the market.

But long before the lockdowns, low- to high-end brands were using hands-free footwear.

“The wave exploded by the time we hit the market,” said entrepreneur and ‘Ridiculousness’ host Rob Dyrdek.

“We are very proud of what Lusso has become. He has landed in the magical space of this new premium comfort brand that sits alongside the three classics Crocs, Uggs and Birkinstock.”

And according to Rob, Lusso Cloud goes one step further with hassle-free footwear.

Rob believes that Birkenstock, Crocs and Uggs are restrictive.

“We wanted to build Lusso to take it one step further in its versatility.

‘I do it all in them. I recently went golfing in it,” he admitted.

“There comes a time when you’re wearing jeans and you go out to eat at a nice restaurant, you’ll look sloppy in your Crocs.

“Those Birkenstocks are going to send a weird message. Why are you in your mail-to-get-mail shoes in your Uggs,’ he jokes.

“It lands perfectly — from the style, the silhouette and the presentation — you can wear them with jeans or a suit, you can literally wear them anywhere, so I do.”

Everyone can enjoy Lusso shoes because they are 100% unisex.

“We get a lot of feedback from customers that these are the most comfortable shoes in their closet,” says Jon.

‘We are trying to achieve a comfortable nirvana on your feet. In many ways this could be the most comfortable shoe in the world.”

Tapping into what everyone is looking for, the brand will soon be teaming up with a notable chef on non-slip styles that are easy to clean and feature hard toe applications.

They will also tackle the world of golf and jiu-jitsu, without their distinctive appearance.

“We like a consistent aesthetic when it comes to materials, so you’ll see the waffle upper go on forever, but in different materials (ie leather, suede, cotton, canvas),” Jon said.

We’ll be sure to follow them every comfortable step!
