A murder investigation has been launched into the discovery of a woman’s body in an abandoned house in eastern Melbourne.

The police were called to an address in Bedford Road, Ringwood around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night after reports from the public of a corpse in the empty house.

Homicide Squad detectives have established a crime scene near the abandoned house as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

The woman has yet to be formally identified.

In a separate incident, police are also investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in nearby Bayswater North on Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 7 a.m. but were able to resuscitate the man, who has not yet been officially identified.

Another man was arrested nearby and is helping the police with their investigation.

Charges have yet to be filed.

The circumstances have yet to be determined, but there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the community, police said.
