Greggs has delighted fans with the return of his 2021 festive bake – which has gone vegan this year.

The original Festive Bake, which launched in 2009 and has since gained a cult following, will be joined by the brand new Vegan Festive Bake following rising public demand for a vegan version of the Christmas classic.

The classic Festive Bake is filled with delicious chicken pieces, sage & onion filling and sweetcure bacon, smothered in a creamy sage & cranberry sauce and covered in delicious shortcrust pastry.

Inspired by the original masterpiece, the vegan version is filled with Quorn™ chunks of mycoprotein, sage and onion filling and vegan bacon crumbs, finished with a delicious sage and cranberry sauce enrobed in delicious puff pastry.

Both treats cost £1.60 and will be available nationwide from November 4.

It comes two years after Greggs launched the vegan sausage roll, with people having to travel miles and queue for hours to get their hands on the meat-free treat.

In 2019, Twitter user @kawaiikhloee swore, “If we don’t get a vegan celebratory bake this year, I might revolt.”

More recently, Greggs have been inundated with tweets from fans questioning the return date of the classic Festive Bake. @HettieHayward tweeted: ‘The festive baking season is coming’, while @Miffer7 posted: ‘It’s almost that time of year again @GreggsOfficial. Give me the festive baking details…’

The legendary pastry chefs finally announced the long-awaited return date of the Festive Bake on their social channels this morning after fans begged to know when it would be back.

How many calories are the festive bakes and how much do they cost?

The new Vegan Festive Bake (449 kcal, from £1.60) and the original Festive Bake (453 kcal, from £1.60) will be available in all Greggs stores in the UK from Thursday 4 November, subject to availability

The new Bake marks another delicious addition to the on-the-go retailer’s increasingly popular vegan range, following the 2019 debut of the Vegan Sausage Roll, the hearty 2020 Vegan Steak Bake and the Vegan Sausage, Bean and CheeZe Melt that took customers by storm this summer.

To give customers the chance to beat the crowd and guarantee their first bite this year, Greggs now has its own Click+Collect service on its website and the Greggs app. Or for those who do not want to leave the house or office, delivery is also possible via Just Eat.

Hannah Squirrell, Customer Director at Greggs, told FEMAIL: “The Festive Bake is the latest iconic Greggs Bake that has been given a vegan-friendly makeover, and it retains all the classic Christmas flavors of the original.

“There’s nothing better during the holiday season than enjoying delicious Christmas food, and we’re confident customers will appreciate our latest tasty Bakes.”
