Footage of Melbourne socialite Nadia Bartel appearing to be snorting white powder at a gathering was mentioned during Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews’ daily coronavirus briefing on Friday.

When asked about the video, which had leaked online on Thursday but may have been recorded earlier, Mr Andrews said he had not seen it but stressed that all Victorians must abide by the rules during the lockdown.

He did not accuse Ms Bartel of breaking the rules herself, and the journalist who asked the question did not mention her by name, only referring to a “high-profile person who appears to be breaking Covid restrictions”.

“I’m not sure which video you’re referring to,” he said.

“I would urge everyone to always do their best to abide by the rules. I know it’s hard, I know it’s hard,” he added.

“Besides, I don’t tend to comment on images I haven’t seen.”

The three-second video of Bartel, 36, appearing to be snorting white powder at a gathering began circulating Thursday night after it was accidentally uploaded to Instagram by Bartel’s friend and business partner Ellie Pearson.

She appears to be snorting the powder from a $1.50 Kmart sign held by a dark-haired woman, while a third woman shows a two-finger hand gesture in the background.

The clip opens with the fashion and beauty influencer appearing to be leaning across the board with a rolled up banknote in her left nostril while pressing her right nostril.

She then appears to be sniffing the dust while one of the women watches.

There is no suggestion that the powder was an illegal substance. Daily Mail Australia has contacted Bartel for comment.

Private and public gatherings are not allowed in Melbourne, where Bartel lives, under Victoria’s statewide Covid restrictions.

However, Daily Mail Australia does not suggest that the video was shot recently.

There is no time stamp on the images and it could very well be months old.
