Hakim Ziyech has been kicked out of the Moroccan squad for showing up late and then REFUSED to play against Ghana in June, his boss claims… with Chelsea winger warned: ‘NOBODY can hold this squad hostage’
- Hakim Ziyech was left out of the selection of Morocco for this international match
- The Chelsea winger responded by posting a smiling emoji on his Instagram
- Morocco coach Vahid Halilhodzic confirmed that Ziyech’s behavior was substandard
- “You can’t cheat the national team. Either you’re 100% or you’re not,” he said
Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech has been ruthlessly excluded from Morocco’s latest roster for holding the group ‘hostage’ by refusing to play in a friendly, boss Vahid Halilhodzic claims.
Ziyech, 28, was a stunning omission for this latest international spell as he is currently Morocco’s most accomplished footballer, having just won the Champions League with Chelsea.
The winger sarcastically posted a laughing emoji on Instagram after his stupidity and now boss Halilhodzic has confirmed a split with his star player.
Hakim Ziyech’s omission from Morocco’s latest roster due to ‘unacceptable behaviour’
Ziyech posted a stunned ‘smiling emoji’ to his Instagram after he was fired, but Moroccan boss Vahid Halilhodzic has now made it clear why the Chelsea winger was left out
“His behavior in the last two games, especially the last one, was not that of a national team player who as a leader of the team has to be a positive role model,” Halilhodzic said. The New Arab.
“He arrived late and after that he even refused to work. There was no point in talking about it afterwards, as a coach the answer can be seen there.
‘For me, the national team is above all else, no one can hold it hostage.’
The ‘unacceptable behaviour’ referred to is believed to stem from Ziyech’s behavior when he was called up at his home in Morocco in June for friendlies against Ghana and Burkina Faso.
Ziyech has been accused of outright refusing to play against Ghana in the first match due to injury, despite the Moroccan team’s medical staff declaring him fit to play.
He added: “For the first time in my coaching career, I have seen behavior that disappoints me. A player who refuses to play a match, albeit a friendly match, on the pretext that he is injured.
“The medical staff did several tests and said he could play. He then refused to warm up in the second half as he was disappointed to be a substitute.
“To me, that kind of behavior is unacceptable. You can’t cheat on the national team. You’re either 100 percent or you’re not.’
It is not Ziyech’s first meeting with a national team coach.
The Chelsea winger is Morocco’s most talented player but is currently being shut out
The Chelsea star previously refused to play for his country when Herve Renard dropped him from the squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Renard also had concerns and reservations about Ziyech’s attitude and as such sidelined him.
Ziyech returned to the Moroccan roster after almost 12 months on the sidelines in Amsterdam with Renard.
He returned to the side and was selected to go to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Morocco finished at the bottom of Group B, losing to Iran and Portugal before a draw against Spain.
A Morocco without Ziyech is currently preparing for Group I qualifiers against Sudan in Rabat on Thursday and against Guinea next Monday.
