Chelsea are reportedly poised to award midfielder Mason Mount with a new and improved contract after his impressive form over the past few seasons.

Mount has made huge strides, establishing himself as a key player for club and country, including this summer at the heart of England’s midfield at Euro 2020.

The 22-year-old, who has been on Chelsea’s books since he was six, signed a five-year contract worth £75,000 a week just over two years ago and has since won the Champions League trophy with the Blues.

At the time of signing the new contract, he had never played a Premier League game for the club, having missed just four of the Blues’ 79 games since then.

And 90min report that he will see his earnings double to £150,000 a week.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has made it very clear how big a fan he is of the player he inherited from former Blues manager Frank Lampard, who loaned Mount to Derby for one season in the 2018-19 season.

“He is incredibly talented and more importantly, he has the personality from a very young age to keep his feet on the ground, to arrive every day with a smile on his face,” Tuchel told Sky Sports earlier this year.

“Mason is just happy to be on the field and play football. It doesn’t matter if he plays short sided games, or four against four or if he plays in boxes there.

“It’s what he would do if he wasn’t a professional player – he’d be in the park doing the same and I feel like he’s very aware of how he got to this point in his career.

“It makes him very confident, he seems very humble and very hungry to learn and these are the great conditions to have a great career.

“He is crucial to our game, he is an absolute key player and he deserves all the support we give him.”
