Broadway musical Waitress reveals plans to honor late cast member Nick Cordero when show reopens Thursday










After going dark for a year and a half, the lights on Broadway soon come back on, with waitress revealing a special honor for the late cast member Nick Cordero.

The actor caught COVID-19 early in the pandemic, which he battled in hospital for over three months before dying in early July 2020 at just 42 years old.

The waitress’s official Instagram account revealed a new menu image with a special way of honoring Cordero, which will be used in every show from now on.

“This week we honored the memory of our beloved cast member Nick Cordero,” the message began.

His wife, @AmandaKloots, was visiting the restaurant when we unveiled the ‘Live Your Life Pie’ sign, referring to a song Cordero wrote and just started performing when he contracted COVID-19.

“This special cake name, and this moment in the show, will be a regular part of every Waitress production in the world,” the post concluded.

The post included a photo of the special menu of all the different pies on offer, including the Live Your Life Pie.

Kloots also shared the same photo on Instagram on Wednesday morning, revealing that she can’t wait to get back and watch the show.

“BROADWAY IS BACK with a “big ol slice of Live Your Life pie!!!”” Kloots began in her caption.

“I’m pretty sure I’ll be crying the whole show, but I can’t wait to be there,” she concluded with three red heart emojis.

Waitress begins her new series of performances on Thursday, September 2 at the Ethel Barrymore Theater.

Cordero joined the Broadway musical in March 2016, playing the part of Earl, before leaving later that year to join A Bronx Tale.

He played Sonny in A Bronx Tale from 2016 to 2018, earning him an Outer Critics Circle Awards nomination and a Dram Desk Awards nomination.

His other stage credits include The Toxic Avenger, Rock of Ages, Bullets Over Broadway and Brooklynite.
