Matthew Wolfenden and Isabel Hodgins are returning to Emmerdale, this has been confirmed as scenes that aired on Friday said their characters will return “as soon as possible.”

The fictional couple, who play David Metcalfe and Victoria Sugden, have not been seen on the ITV soap since September, after they left for Portugal to visit her stepmother Diane.

Now their characters are ready to make their way back to the Dales after David’s ex Meena Jutla turned out to be a murderer and fled their beloved village.

In a tense conversation with Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) asked what was going on after he got home from college to find the police.

She said, ‘There is something you should know. Leanna’s death was not an accident. It was Meena. Meena killed Leanna. There were others too—Andrea and Ben.’

Eyes bulging, he said, “No way, she fell off the bridge. She can’t have it – how can she? Leanna would never have hurt anyone.’

Realizing that Meena might indeed be guilty, he asked, “Does Dad know?” to which Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) said to his grandson, “Theo has an ear infection, but they’ll be here ASAP.”

Emmerdale fans have called on soap bosses to kill the serial killer after the latest twist makes her confess her crimes to her sister.

A recent episode of the ITV show saw the nurse roll off the list of victims she had been given to a shocked Manpreet.

However, amid the plot’s final arc, viewers at home have begged the producers to close the story with the comment, “This storyline must end!”

Meena’s reign of terror has seen her murder Andrea Tate, Ben Tucker, Nadine Butler and Leanna Cavanagh, while unsuccessfully trying to silence Victoria by drowning her.

And in the last sick turn for Meena, she also held her older sister captive and confessed to all her murders while mentally torturing the doctor.

Matthew Wolfenden (who plays David) and Isabel Hodgins (Victoria) were absent after claims that “the accent of a mixed-race actress was being mimicked” on set.

The unnamed actress was upset after an inappropriate comment to her, before it was alleged that her accent was mocked during the fallout.

According to The Sun, ITV bosses have accepted Matthew and Isabel’s explanation that the alleged remark and facial expression had been ‘misunderstood’, and that no formal action could be taken against them.

A source revealed to the publication: ‘ITV has launched a thorough investigation into the allegations made, with witness statements taken. The bosses accepted Matthew and Isabel’s explanation and agreed to go back to work.

“However, it has been made very clear that racism and bullying will not be tolerated by ITV. They have also advised the subject of their alleged comments on how to deal with the couple’s return.”

MailOnline contacted an Emmerdale spokesperson at the time for comment.

Neither actor had been formally suspended by the producers of the Yorkshire-based soap, but they haven’t filmed any scenes since September.

In November, Matthew and Isabel were alleged to have been charged with charges.

Both stars – who joined the soap in 2006 – have categorically denied the claims of racism and have suggested the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

An Emmerdale spokesperson told MailOnline at the time: “While we would never comment on individual cases, Emmerdale has a robust policy of addressing any allegations brought to our attention and taking the appropriate steps.”

It was also reported that Matthew rowed with opponent Aaron Anthony, who plays Ellis Chapman in the Dales, after the alleged incident.

A source told The Sun: “It is well known on set that Matthew and Isabel are currently not filming following a complaint.

This all came about after a conversation between them and another actress – in which the alleged comment was made.

“There was also an allegation that the actress’s accent was imitated.”

The source went on to say that Matthew and Aaron then had a “tense conversation”, adding that Matthew and Isabel “stopped filming” after that.

The insider added that “emotions are running high” on set since the incident, with the cast unsure “what to believe”.

Meanwhile, the female cast member is said to have continued filming “as normal” in the middle of the race, though she wished she “hadn’t gotten caught up in it.”

The publication reported that the “problem was far from solved” and as two of Emmerdale’s biggest stars, their sudden absence from the set caused major “production problems”.
