Just after it was revealed that her directorial debut Bruised will premiere as the #1 film in the US and #2 worldwide, Halle Berry is awarded an overall deal.

The 55-year-old actress and filmmaker signed a new partnership via Deadline to star in and produce new movies for the streaming service.

There’s no indication yet what Berry’s first post-Bruised project with the streaming service could be.

Bruised, in which Berry stars, directs and produces from a script by newcomer writer Michelle Rosenfarb, is set in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).

The film topped Netflix’s US movie charts and took second place on the worldwide charts, reaching number 1 in 21 countries.

The film registered more than 47.7 million hours of viewing in just its first five days of release, over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Bruised, which Berry produced with Basil Iwaynk, Brad Feinstein, Guymon Casady, Linda Gottlieb, Erica Lee, Gillian G. Hormel, Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis and Terry Douglas, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

It was quickly acquired for distribution by Netflix, who paid $20 million for the distribution rights.

The film was also shown at AFI Fest in Los Angeles ahead of its limited theatrical release on November 17 and its Netflix debut a week later.

‘My directorial debut, Bruised, was a labor of love and I knew Scott [Stuber] and Ted [Sarandos] would handle it with great care,” Berry said in a statement.

“The Netflix team has not only been collaborative and creative, but also extremely passionate and a joy to work with. I am beyond grateful for the partnership and look forward to sharing more stories together,” she added.

“There are very few people with a career like Halle Berry. She’s an award-winning actress, producer and as the public saw last week, she’s an incredible director,” added Stuber, who serves as Head of Global Film at Netflix.

“We love being in her corner as she provides power in front of and behind the camera in Bruised and we look forward to telling more stories together,” he added.
